Charalampos Mitsoglou (10 February 1902? – 2 September 2015) was a Turkish-Greek supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Charalampos Mitsoglou claimed to have been born on 10 February 1902, to parents of Pontic Greek origin, in a village near Bafra, Samsun, present-day Turkey, then part of the Ottoman Empire. At the age of 12, in 1914, while the persecution of the Armenians by the Turks had begun, he was forced to go to the mountain with his father, mother, brother and three sisters to save their lives. . He recalled they lived like savages and that they were eating turtles. He lost his parents and his brother as they were caught and put in a concentration camp, where they were not given water. He achieved to survive the 1921 Bafra massacres and came to Greece with his three sisters in 1924.

They firstly went in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki and then in Kokkinochoma, Lagkadas, Thessaloniki. He voted for first time in 1933 Greek legislative elections for politician Eleftherios Venizelos. He fought in the Greco-Italian War.

He never learned to read or write, although he had no vision problems. Only in the last years of his life he started taking antihypertensive drugs as a precaution, and rarely needed a doctor. The secret of longevity was for him "not to smoke, to eat healthy and not to drink bottled drinks. Only red wine from the vineyard or tsipouro from the production". His daughter Maria revealed that his father was not anxious about anything. He had never been anxious.

When in 2010 he was asked about current events he said that "these are difficult years for the economy. Many people will be unemployed. Things are not going well.". He voted in May 2012 Greek legislative elections.

He had six children, the eldest of whom a daughter who was 82 years old in February 2010, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as of 2010, while he lost both the wives he married.

Mitsoglou died on 2 September 2015, at the claimed age of 113 years, 204 days in Volvi, Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece.
