Calogera Nicolosi (4 December 1903 - 4 June 2014) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is currently pending by the Gerontology Research Group.

Biography

Calogera Nicolosi was born on 4 December 1903 in Caltabellotta, Sicily, Italy, from Pellegrino and Calogera Tornambe [Italian: Tornambè]. She had two brothers, Giuseppe, and Salvatore, and five sisters, Filippa, Paola, Caterina, Maria, and Pellegrina. All the children moved to the USA, except Calogera and Salvatore.

She married a first time with Pellegrino Coletti in 1922, from who she had four children: Paola (deceased), Calogera (deceased), Pellegrina "Pina" (who lives in Roma), and an other child who died at the age of 3. They lived in Caltabellotta, and worked hard in the fields.

In 1963, Calogera Nicolosi remarried with Paolo Vacante from Calamonaci.

Because she belonged to a farmer's family, she was given simple values to face the life's setbacks. On her 108th birthday, she was reported to have a good memory. She doesn't like watching television, and pray often. When asked for the secret of her longevity, she credited faith and the help of the lady Mary. She was surnamed "za Lidda", and cared by her grandchildren Anna and Giuseppe Merchante, and a caregiver.

She died on 4 June 2014 in Caltabellotta, Sicily, Italy at the age of 110 years, 182 days. She was among the oldest living people in Italy. She was survived by her daughter Pellegrina, and a lot of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
