Longevity myth

Billafunda (Siddha) Sayadaw U.Kowida (alias Wizzardo Sayadaw U.Kowida) (908/968? – fl.30 September 2020) was a Burmese man longevity claimant who claims to be 1052/1112 years old, making this longevity myth one of the most extreme modern claims known.

Biography

U.Kowida claimed to have been born in the year 908 in Moksobo, Myanmar. He became a Buddhist monk at the Newthar Monastery and in 1027 he became an Iron Weizzar through the teaching of his Master Ariya Siddha Ashin Upagote (alive during the 11th century). He said that he went through a fire transformation ceremony to achieve his immortality.

U.Kowida claims also that he is able to do alchemical transformation which is able to archive certain levels of enlightenment. There are also rumors that his supporters also lives a hundreds of years old.

U.Kowida is known as the legendary monk in Myanmar, who often accompanied LP Sang in parade all over Southeast Asia. Some people think that he is a disciple of LP Theerok Oudang, and some people think that he is a member of the LP Theerok Oudang Sangha. The Burmese military imprisoned him for seven days in order to persecute him. They did not give him any food or water, and even set fire to him, but they had no effect on him. All the methods that tried to persecute him were powerless to him. The Burmese military could only release him in desperation, and never harassed him again. There are many records about him in the development history of Burmese Buddhism. He has supervised the creation of some amulets for his own standing.

A source from 2007 says that he was actually born in 968. Which would make him 1039 years old at the time, still one of most extreme modern claims known.

U.Kowida was last confirmed alive in Myanmar on 30 September 2020 at the claimed age of 1052/1112 years.
