Maria Bienvenida Vergara Jaen de Cano [Spanish: María] (6 April 1904 – 6 June 2017) was a Panamanian supercentenarian who was the longevity recordholder for her country until 13 October 2019, when her age was surpassed by Clara Cedeno Tello. She is noted as being the first validated supercentenarian from Panama.[1]

Biography

Bienvenida was born in Las Tablas, a town in Southern Panama to Silverio Vergara and Francisca Jaén de Vergara. She was the oldest of 12 children. She married Elias Cano in 1922 and had two daughters. At the age of 108, she still had a living brother, Hipolito.[2]
