Basun was born on 1 June 1905 in Bhutan. She married at the age of 14, worked as a farmer, blessed with 14 children, and lived as a political refugee for over 20 years in Nepal. She was given the opportunity to come to Austin, Texas in 2010, and moved to Sioux Falls in 2014 to be with her family. She loved to sing, dance, pray, and play with her children and grandchildren. Basun has become a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. She passed away in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on 1 March 2016 at the claimed age of 110 years, 274 days.
