Aurelio Francisco Diaz-Campillo (16 October 1878 – 13 June 1989) was a validated Spanish supercentenarian.

Biography

Aurelio was born in a town called Tielve. His father was Bernabe Diaz and his mother was Maria Campillo. As a young man growing up during the 1880s and 1890s, Aurelio worked with livestock in the family farm. At age 10, he moved to Seville, where he started working at a charcuterie.

He enlisted in the Spanish-American War, where he was sent to Cuba in January 1898 to fight. After the war, he returned to Spain, where he eventually had 12 children.

Towards the very end of his life, he was completely deaf and had limited movement ability.

Aurelio Diaz died on 13 June 1989 at the age of 110 years, 240 days. At the time of his death, he was the last surviving Spanish veteran of the Spanish-American War. Aurelio Diaz was also the first Spanish male supercentenarian.

An attempt to save a windmill owned by Aurelio was initiated recently.
