Assunta Barboni (2 January 1914 – 5 February 2021) was an Italian centenarian who was one of the oldest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biography[]

Barboni was born on 2 January 1914 in Mesola, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. In her youth she worked as a mondina (seasonal rice paddy worker). She was married to Edmo Bellini, and the couple had four children: Iseo (who predeceased her), Franco, Irles, and Umberto. Her husband died in around 2007. At the time of her 106th birthday in January 2020, Barboni had nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Barboni died from COVID-19 in hospital in Cento, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, on 5 February 2021 at the age of 107 years, 34 days, making her one of the oldest victims of the coronavirus pandemic.
