Armida was born in Sumter, South Carolina on 9 August 1905 to Josiah and Armida Moses Brunson. She used to work as a desk clerk at Wesley Long Hospital. In the 1920s, in her late teens, she fell in love and ran away to get married. She married Henry Wiley Sholar on 20 March 1922 and had four children with him: Martha Jenkins, Henry Wiley, Bill and Mike Sholar. Her husband passed away in 1940s at 43. Only her son Bill is alive.
