Ann Grace Russell (19 November 1823 – 7 February 1931) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known living person in the United Kingdom at the time of her death. She was also the last known person in the world born in 1823.
Biography[]
Ann Grace Russell was born in the United Kingdom on 19 November 1823. She became the oldest living person in the country following the death of 107-year-old William Walker on 28 February 1929. Russell held the title for almost two years until her death on 7 February 1931 at the age of 107 years, 80 days. Her successor as the oldest person in the United Kingdom was Eliza Roff (1824–1933).
Russell became the last surviving person born in 1823 (whose age has subsequently been validated) following the death of 105 year-old Belgian Herlindis Goeminne on 21 January 1929. Following William Walker's death on 28 February 1929, Russell became the second-oldest known person in the world, after Katherine Plunket (1820-1932).
