Alma Dominika Bruss (née Hoerres) (17 September 1889 – 4 November 2000) was an American supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the second-oldest known living person in Wisconsin behind Anna Balsiger when she died.

Biography

Alma Bruss was born Alma Dominika Hoerres in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, on 17 September 1889. Her parents were John Peter Hoerres and Bertha (née Studerus) Hoerres. She was the second of five children born to the couple and was christened on the day of her birth.

By 1920, Alma had married a man named Joseph Schoenfelder and had four children with him: Marcella, Norman, Florence and Gertrude. On 14 November 1924, Alma's father John passed away just over three weeks after his 61st birthday. Alma's brother Leander Hoerres had passed away in 1916, aged just 14.

Alma and Joseph had divorced by 1930, and Alma went on to marry Herman Bruss after 1940. He passed away in 1965. Alma never remarried after Herman's death. Her mother Bertha had passed away on 26 May 1956, three and a half months before her 90th birthday. Her sisters, Clara Link and Jennie Raschig, passed away on 7 June 1977 aged 86, and 9 November 1984 aged 96 respectively.

Alma Bruss had lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin all her life, and died there on 4 November 2000 at the age of 111 years, 48 days. Her age was originally validated by the Kestenbaum Study.
