Ai Suganoya [Japanese: 菅谷藍] (10 May 1908 - fl.10 May 2019) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Ai Suganoya was born on 10 May 1908 in Nagai, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. She was six child in family and had 7 siblings. In her youth, she had a dream to become a writer. In 1927, she graduated from Nagai Senior High School.

In 1934, she married to a man with the surname Suganoya. Four years after marriage, her husband died of tuberculosis. They didn't have any children. According to Suganoya, while she was married, she was busy and completely forgot her dream of becoming a writer. During World War II, she worked at a military factory in Osaka City. She wrote several novels during her life.

After her sister's husband died, they moved together to Suita, Osaka and started living together. Even at the age of 112, she can still walk unassisted and she still practices calligraphy at her home.

Suganoya currently lives in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, Japan at the age of 115 years, 344 days.
